We have a number of residencies working with our students and staff in Discovery Academy this year. An Art residency involves the use of a full-time teaching artist whose work is integrated into curricular areas. This integration identifies Discovery Classes in a unique way and allows for the development of a common language and skill set to be explored and employed with students and faculty. These residencies are being supported by the MSAP grant and by the faculty and students who welcome them into their classrooms. They represent truly collaborative experiences in which professionals bring their work into our classrooms and help to further the real world applications that we strive for.
We currently have:
Ø Bhawin Suchak, a local film maker who runs YouthFX and works with Grand Street Community Arts working with three teachers and their students and we are planning a partnership with Proctors though a program called Media Works. Both of these residencies involve film and production and we are hoping to expand both into next year.
Ø The music department is continuing a four year old partnership with Albany Pro Musica which will culminate with a concert at the Massry Center of St. Rose on May 16th.
Ø We are developing a project with Ruth Pelham and the Music Mobile which we also hope will expand into next year and allow for collaborative experiences with our Middle and Elementary school students.
Ø Alex Koch, a projection artist, is working with students and staff to develop a projected set for the spring musical: My Fair Lady.
