Our select choir, under the leadership of Brendan Hoffman, is in the fourth year of a partnership with Albany Pro Musica. They will have a free concert at the Massry Center of St. Rose on May 16th beginning at 7:00 pm. Below is a short description from Brendan Hoffman further describing this wonderful partnership!
The Albany High School Select Choir has the distinct honor of working with acclaimed choir Albany Pro Musica, and director David Griggs-Janower. This residency with APM is now in its fourth year, and the plan is for this relationship to continue. The two choirs select and rehearse an impressive program of music together starting in January and culminating in May with a concert at the Massry Center at The College of Saint Rose. Once a month, members of APM come to Albany High School and David Griggs-Janower rehearses the combined group. Each year, one of the pieces selected incorporates instrumental accompaniment which utilizes our Wind Ensemble and Advanced Orchestra students. This year, that piece is the epic O Fortuna from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. Other pieces include Eric Whitacre's Cloudburst, Moses Hogan's Soon ah will be Done, and Eric William Barnum's Sweetheart of the Sun. The concert will feature these combined pieces as well as each choir performing a set of their own music.
